X-over pipe diameter
X-over pipe diameter
The xover pipe on my JB is ridiculously narrow at the turbo end,, even looking at the JA's it loos different, I've got a pipe that'll fit, so my question is it worth it?? would I get better bottom end / top end???

I am pretty sure I know what you are talking about. But to be completely clear.
Exactly what is the X-Over Pipe? Is it the pipe that runs from the IC to the turbo intake which goes over the engine, or something else?

well, the first I noticed was the exhaust not, deeper?, and the bottom end isheaps better I can drive off boost all day and still have plenty acceleration, turbo lag is improved... it's a good cheap mod for the money.StarionChef wrote:let us know what sort of improvment it gives :)
My only explanation for the OEM xover pipe, is that the engineers wanted to slow the thing down or something..

would you really want to wrap the cross over pipe in thermo tape? if it isn;t intercooled then you'll only be insulating the hot air and keeping it in the pipe, atleast without thermo tape in this kind of setup the pipe can act as a kind of heatsink with the air that passes over it from the factory bonnet JA anyways.
But if the car is intercooled then ofcourse thermo tape it to keep the cooler air in.

Nope.. I agree with far our Benny. I wouldn't wrap hot pipes.
The air inside that x-over pipe can reach upto 80 or 90 degrees C (no intercooler). The air in the engine bay will be a lot cooler than that.. especially when the car is on the move. You would want to leave that pipe un-wrapped so it can radiate some of that heat out.
The only pipe I would wrap would be between the intercooler and the throttle body.
