small black box under fuel pump?

hi guys i'm having trouble with my ja.
the fuel pumps not getting electricity. checked the wireing and the fuel pump relay but cant find whats wrong. when the fuel pump is connected up to the ignition directly, bypassing the fuel pump relay it goes to fast and sucks to much power from the battery that the starter motor wont kick. my mechanic and autoelectrician cant identify what a small black box on the wireing from the fuel pump relays to the fuel pump does its just below the fuel pump. anyone got any ideas would really help. this car is my daily driver and i'v being without it for nearly 2 weeks.

Ok...
What small black box?? I've just changed over fuel tanks and the only thing that I noticed as a 'black box' was the TDK electrical relay which links thru standard plug to fuel pump.
Thats not what ur talking about tho is it?

not sure my mechanic and auto electrician are working on it and they have no idea what it is. it on the wiring between the fuel pump relay and the fuel pump. just below the pump. i said i would see if anyone on here knew about it becaues there stumped over whats happening, and neither have worked on starions other than mine.

Right,
Just checked my spare fuel pump and there is no black box other than the relay.
Wiring goes plug to relay, relay to fuel pump.
For some reason yours seems to be different... :?
fuel pump relay location.

The TDK black box at the fuel pump isn't a relay - it's an electrical noise suppressor.

I'm with JPC on this one...
After playing with my fuel pump for the last week, and rewiring everything to get the car going...The little black TDK box (the one with the black/black+yellow wires in and out) is just a noise suppressor..
I was worried about it when I took it out, but now I'm not.

thanks sir gsr.
problem fixed. well looks like my battery was stuffed and couldnt get enought voltage to run both starter and fuel pump at the same time. didnt consider that at first becaues new battery only 2months old. replaced it under warranty. assumptions are the mother of all f#$k ups.

nope still stuffed. must be a loose wire some where. worked for 4 days and then back. this time its gone to the auto electrician.
anyone know of a starion quirk that might caue a intermitten fuel supply problem?

What do you mean by intermittent fuel supply problem?
Explain it a bit more and I'll give you a few tips...

ahhhhh this is giving me the s%$ts had it back on the road again (3rd time) for 4 days and then its stuffs up again. its back at the mech/elec's (the 4time in 4weeks.)
any ideas.
last time they set up all new wireing for the fuel pump with a new relay bypassing the built in ones and hooked the fuel pump up to the accessories on the ignition. worked fine then on saturday night it starts running really ruth like its running out of petrol. manage to get it home but it dosent start monday. and i cant here the fuel pump when on accesories. tried again this arvo (tuesday) and at first nothing no fuel pump sound again then the fuel pump starts. and the engine then starts too. manage to drive to the mechanics with it running like its running out of petrol lurching and sputering.
the fuel pump is a new fuel pump just got it in december.
any ideas?
so far we plan to test the fuel pump and maybe replace under warranty and we are going to take the fuel tank out and see if anythings blocking the fuel hose.
please help anyone seen anything like this?

It could be a very clogged in tank filter (which i think can be checked without dropping the fuel tank out), or even just a clogged fuel filter which would explain your intermittent fuel supply..

check the fusable links mate.
under the air filter and under the battery tray i think the manual says.
these were old and dodgy on mine and gave me total greif for a long time and it was intermittent!!!
mine went on the air cleaner side.
its like regular cable but the conductor acts as a fuse.
just a thought :beer
