Not a staz question.

Post by madeofmilo »

While cleaning up the "parts shed' i can across a wierd intake and exhaust manifold and turbo. Turns out it's off a VL turbo. Just wondering if anyone knows if you can get standard VL and chuck the turbo stuff off of course the turbo engine is a bit different. Just wondering what you guys know.

Cheers Dave
My JA has perfect motor - FMIC - forgies - high flow head but...rusted front guards and keyed on every panel. Time to get serious or time to take it to the tip.

mate, i think the only difference is the pistons and compression ratio , i dont know for sure im just going off what my cousin reckons. but he told me he used to push 30psi in a standard vl .????

you need the vlt ecu (need to change the way it activates the fuel pump with a relay), vlt injectors (they use different pulsewide to the n/a ones), vlt exhaust manifold and turbo and pipework (the n/a plastic intake piping is known to explode under boost

apparently if you use the n/a cam in vlt engines you get less turbo lag and a broader power band.... n/a intake manifold is also better for turbo conversions

the pistons are the same as far as i know.. vls are 9.1:1 and vlt's are 7.4:1 or something around there so most people use a decomp plate or a shim...

what can i say... i also own a vl and pondered this many times - i'll buy them off you for the right price if the turbo is in good nick

EDIT: http://members.optushome.com.au/smbrooks/turbo.htm explains it quite nicely
