ive brought this up once, can anyone tell me definatively that the std starion ecu has no rev limiter?

i read somewhere than a cordia has a 'soft revlimit' at 7100rpm but jeez dunno how they found that out!

just spoke to a friend who owned a ja, swears he hit one doing a power u turn...

Don't know about a "Rev Limit", but we have a boost cut! The turbo will only take so much abuse before it spikes and cuts power!

yeh cordias def. have a 7100 soft limiter, i hit it numerous times (my bad), on my new ecu ive got rev limiter set at the same and i hit that constantly... lol

Well we ran My son's staz to 6800-7000rpm U will find the cam & turbo limit it, it will rev but not produce power. Also is U have balance shaft still in, when the enging is doing 6000rpm, the shafts are doing 12,000rpm, yes 12,000RPM! they don't like it 4 long, so best not 2 do it, or get rid of shafts :beer

Sorry if I sound dumb, but what do the balance shafts do again? And do we need them?

only one of em spins at 12000rpm

sirgsr: they are meant to stop the inherent vibration that most 4 cylinder motors make, by spinning two balance/silent shafts in opposite directions and at different speeds, its meant to stop it from vibrating.

the problem with them is they seize up..

So we don't really need them???

if u dont mind a bit of vibration at certain RPM levels, no.

you will end up making more power without them as well.

What type of vibration? And how severe? At what revs?

balance shafts

only one of em spins at 12000rpm
Not quite correct, they both spin at the same speed in opposite directions. Vibration really isn't noticable, only on 2.6 and 2.4L engines, no U don't need them, take them out!!!! do asearch on here 4 info on how 2 do it.. :beer

The Starion has no revlimiter .

The VR4 was the first .

Everything before had an overboost fuel and ignition cut which people still sometimes mistake for a rev limiter .

I like balance shafts . :P

I've owned a starion without balance shafts, it starts to vibrate like a constant vibration from a powerful sub from 4000rpm onwards. I prefer the shafts though, love that unique electric sound/smoothness.

Verdict- A engine with no balance shafts is like driving on ripple strips constantly at a certain rev range, partiqularly at mid to hight engine revs.

My engine doesnt have balance shafts and it starts to vibrate at 3000 rpms, i can feel the vibration through the accelerator pedal and the engine note changes alittle.
