dash speed sensor

hi guys!I put the engine wiring loom in my starion,from 87 eterna,and found a yellow/white wire going into the back of the speedo.my starion is a n z new ex,so it never had a cut out (speed)do need this wire hooked up?Ive been told that it can affect idle control etc?
