td05-20g or maybe td06-20g?

Depends what you want it for. The td05-20g will spool up lateish but have a fair whack of power, or you can go for something like the evo3 td05-big 16g which spools up really fast and has a huge punch compared to the standard turbos.
Will depend on the application, ie street, dragging, etc.

Those turbos are all bush bearings. HOw much powr are you after, with turbo selection it's always a balance between how much response you want to how much power you want to make. Look at the flow maps of the turbo, garret make them freely available and find one that will suit the power you are looking for. Ideally you would be looking for a turbo that makes the power you want in with the smallest frame possible to give it good response.
Garret

Go the Garret range to get a ball bearing cartrige and you will have to get a custom manifold built to suit.

The spool on the EVO3 TD05H-big16G is awersome. With this setup for Subaru application it outspools the ball bearing VF34 IHI turbo's.
As fr335tyl3r found out these turbo's are magic.

there is absolutely nothing wrong with journal bearing turbos. Nothing.
My vote goes to the evoIII 16g also.
At HALF the price, it will peeelll a 'disco potatoe'. Best turbo for the money hands down!! Under $500usd, wastegate included.
Don't fall for all that ballbearing/GT garret hype and horse5hit.
They're good stuff, but not 'all that', and by no means block the gateway to a fast street car.
EvoIII 16 has run 32psi occasionally on some dohc 2L mitsus. And lived!
Has put down over 410 hp/ 430 ft-lbs tq. Read that torque again.
Ran 11.4sec in a 3200+ pound 2L pig!!
Show me a gt25/28 variant that has matched that.
-IF- you've unlocked the secret to making the 2L sohc actually make power at hi rpms, the E16 will suck everthing out of those 550s. Will need 680s then

oops, I typed that response without 'refreshing' the thread.
For drifting, I'd run whatever the drifters run, as suggested. I know nothing about such a setup.... only that I would borrow somebody elses car to 'try it'. Looks like fun :)
My post directed towards anybody interested in building a fast street car, starting with a platform listed - evo16 fits the bill.
