2 loom related questions

Hi guys,

Some questions for someone who may have the knowledge to answer this. I am pulling the old loom that is on the ECU side of the car out in preparation for installing my haltec and the multi point stuff.

Firstly, can someone give me a run down of what is connected to besides the ecu, using the wiring loom that goes down the passenger side of the car? As far as I can tell, the 2 ecu connectors, a large relay and a seperate "loom" which goes to the drivers side.

Secondly, the relay that is mounted above the ECU, is this for the ECU power supply? Ie, it is ok for me to remove this as I have the proper relays for the haltec?

Thirdly, the connector and wires that go to the drivers side of the car, what are these?

There are a few wires that you will be removing with that loom that you will need. However just run some new wires, and throw the loom away.

The wires that you need to run are for:

Starter motor (Yep, you wont get far without this one!)
Rev gauge on dash
Water temp gauge on dash

Thats all i can remember needing.

These wires will need to connect to that "loom" that you mentioned running to the driver side. From that loom you can also get ignition power to turn the ecu on. It is best to run the full time power straight from the battery with an inline fuse.

The large relay above the ECU can also be removed, it is used for power for the standard ecu and a relay for the fuel pump. Just use a new relay and set it up how the new ecu wants it.

You will also have part of the old loom that runs under the radiator support over to the airbox that can be removed, along with the silver box mounted on the radiator support.

Awesome that was exactly what I wanted to hear fuel.

I knew about the starter motor wire. I have an aftermarket water temp gauge and won't be using the stock one.

FUEL,
I need a bit of help...
I can't find the wire for my tacho. (I think it is white with a black stripe)
What connection does it have on it?
What part of the loom is it? What other wires and connection are on it?

I have to find it an connect it to a green wire on my EMS 2 coil ignitor to get the tacho working again...

I left all the old wiring in and I left the factory computer where it is.
The EMS 8860 computer is "hidden" behind the center panel for the radio and gauges...
I have a serial cable permanently connected and I can pull it through the hole/vent on the passenger centre side panel.

What is you set up going to consist of?
Haltec?
L300?
Turbo?

I remember now....

The tacho wire is near the coil, it comes out of the fuse box in the engine bay. It is white with black stripe or black with white stripe. It is by itself and should have a spade terminal on the end (not sure if male or female).

I connected this to the neg side of the coil as i was only running single coil. So it sounds like you will need to run a wire to your ecu.

You could try finding it under the dash, but i would just run a wire to where it ends.

Very cool... It looks like we are heading down the the same path. :)

I'm a bit further down the track at this stage and slightly different options... But very close..

By the way... you mentioned getting an ignitor for your twin coil packs for about $135? I bought an EMS 2 coil ignitor for $75 for memory?

Definetly. I'm not sure what the final price on the igniter will be, it is through a friend *cough* mrb1 *cough*. :)

Once all my stuff is done I'll be keen to take it to the runs, track days, whatever as I will have time then too :)

the big relay above the ecu also powers the std map sensor and fuel pump.
it actually an easier ecu installation if you leave it in there and use it.
they seldom fail.
