Ok, I have killed my DASH somehow...but it is weird.

For about 1 week I could hear a high pitched sqweel from the motor, only after backing off after high boost. It sounded like a large vacuum leak.
But after my last drive the sqweel stayed for longer, and louder.

Got home, noticed a slight power loss, ( but it was a very hot day ), idled normal, nothing strange. Next morning, started up... huge knock, coming from the motor, sounded like from the top under the rocker cover. Slight rev's raised the oil pressure, and the noise went away.

Decided not to drive it, and check it out later. Come back to it and I cannot start it! It fires ok but then stops, even cranking, has compression, looked under the rocker cover and all seems ok, ( no broken springs or rockers)

Timing belt lines up right, pulls over by hand and feels right.
Have I destroyed a distributor?
I'm at a loss to what I have done...

I'm not allowed to touch the Wife's JB.... Ha! I guess that's why it still goes!
I have the horrible feeling I have a broken crankshaft. I'll do a compression check this afternoon.
:x :(

you have chopped out a balance shaft bearing.

What are you talking about roger? That is rubbish. Boost Sensor? The map sensor (I assume this is what you are referring to) would make the engine idle really badly and affect the car when it revs up, nothing to do with the engine not being able to turn over correctly.

READ what you are posting in reply to roger.

I've had a few of the problems your having before and this is what I found.
It started with the car turning over, firing, then stopping when you release it from the starter motor. It turned out my EFI relay or wiring had gone bad, I bypassed the relay with new wiring and it stayed running after the starter disengaged.

Then a few days later I also got a large knocking sound and a lose of power which turned out to be the clutch pressure plate contacting the gearbox and one of the flywheel bolts contacting the clutch, although unless you've recently changed your clutch that probably isn't your problem.

I would drain and remove the sump and check the oil for any metal shavings from bearings like flav mentioned, maybe rig up a boost leak detector and see if there are any vac leaks like you mentioned and maybe check out the EFI relay just incase that is the problem.

I had a experience with my white cordia, that at the end it was my boost sensor, its a long story,it sounds very weird, but in my case it was the boost sensor.

Maybe the wiper fluid is a little low. Better check that too.

An update,
Thanks for all your comments, when one starts to PANIC, you go back to basics. I took out all the spark plugs and got the master co-ordinator ( Wife ) to sit in the car and crank the motor over.
I got blasted by compressed air out of all 4 sparkplug holes.
I'm thinking the crank is ok, and the internals are ok.
I'm starting to think that Flav has hit the nail on the head, and it is just a balance shaft bearing.
I've got an idea why it won't start, but it's late now and I don't want to look too stupid.
