Where to get TDO5

Okay, I decided to drive my Starion to work today and give it a run. I have after a longer drive discovered that my TD05 is hoplessly overwhelmed by all the modifications I have done. It has a sweet spot of about 1500 rpm then it all gets too much for it. So Im looking for a larger TD05 ( 20g ?) Can anyone point me in the right direction where to purchase one from that will fit my starion. All the USA ones seem to be the wrong fitment.

Dude, I don't think you can actually buy a 20g td05. You have to get your td05 ported and fitted with a 20g compressor wheel. Thus called hi-flowing. This is the only way that I know of in Australia. The US sell ones that are already done for you but as you said the fittings are different. Well, it depends on your stazz. Mine is the same.

you could look into making a td05-06 hybrid? your td05 exhaust housing and your td06 compressor housing? could be fun...

Get a genuine MHI TD05-16g compressor side. Have it bored out and find a turbo shop to import a custom 20G wheel. Personally I'd just buy a pre-made hybrid, as it seems to be cheaper. Lots of people (in NZ not sure about aussie), make hybrid turbos, or have TD05's built with larger wheels, then decide to sell the car and sell the turbo.

Seen quite a few TD05-16gs -> TD05/TD06-25G hybrids for $800-$1200NZ either unusued or very low ks.

Get something ideal though, measure up flow/power + spool abilities. I'm putting a TD05-12 in my car because it will be running a mere 8-10psi for a while yet, and still let me enjoy the fast spool, then later I'll start upgrading the compressor side as other modifications are done. Great part of using a TD05-12 as a base, is that it has the 3 bolt exhaust flange found on the Starion. Although knowing my luck, I'm about to learn of some flaw that ruins my plan and renders the turbo useless.

Such is life.

I agree with Prozac on this though, keep exhaust side, just replace the compressor side.

Why are the US ones the wrong fitment? I have been looking into getting a hybrid from the States. Does this mean that the US turbo flange is different to our 4g63's here in aus?

They should be the same. I know the ones that are being sold here by the aussie distributor fit every Mitsubishi turbo car.

Certainly, one sure-fire way of achieving a good balance between top-end power and street-useable low-down torque is to copy the IHI turbocharger that Subaru used in its own 206kW STi WRX. However, aftermarket tuners can chose from any of the IHI VF turbos - the VF22, 23 and 29 being the most common and readily available. Note that all VF-series turbochargers use the same roller-bearing, water-cooled core assembly - just different wheels and housings to achieve different flows. The VF22 gives the scope for the most peak power, the '23 is the middle ground and the VF29 delivers a slight (but very wide) increase in torque over the standard TD-series turbos. All IHI VFs are direct bolt-ons.

They are around $2200 or less for brand new IHI WRX Turbo's.
