Brake upgrades

Post by Junkers »

Hey people

Just went for a spin in a friends car and after having a drive in it I realised how bad single pot brakes are (compared to his 4 pots).

What upgrades/options are there for our cars and what would I expect to pay? Have any of you bothered to re-do your brake setups?

It doesn't look to complicated to replace the old setup, but from what I hear you can pay a bit for high performance brakes.

Ahh cheers

Never the less what would you expect to pay for a pair of 4 pot calipers and would they just 'bolt on', can I get away with using a standard starion master cylinder?

I dont think there is such a thing that is a bolt on upgrade, the best you could possibily do is get better pads, use good fluids and take off the backing plate. With an extra 6 pistons to push i dont think the starion master cylinder can be used.

I hear you can use the Pajero master cylinder.

I dont have facts for pricing, but I do know that due to my preception of costs, Id rather do 50 other things first.

for any kind of serious front brake upgrade, using new parts,
factor on spending a minimum of $1200, and probably more like $1500.

but, if you like track days, you will LOVE the difference :D :D :D

the bigger master cylinder is a good idea, as the 4 pots require a lot more fluid to be moved, hense, less peddle travel.

why try and re-invent the wheel, its all been done and proved, just follow the instructions.
easy.

Just remember that $1500 includes calipers, pads, rotors, mounting bracket and larger master cylinder.

It actually a relatively cheap brake upgrade really.

It'll have to wait till my income rises and I can start racing starions :(

I don't think $1500 dollars would be justified just for road use.

once you have been in a starion with the brake upgrade, you will know why its worth every penny, and i think its quite cheap anyway but fuck me they pull up quick.
