and it doesnt wanna come down. Any suggestions?
and 2) the starter motor came out like this

my 2 cents,
starter looks fine, a little worn but nothing to loose sleep over.
the joint is your prob? if you don’t have the tool just get someone to step on the bottom bar or pull it down if no room and "crack" the side of the top piece (connected to the box) with a hammer, don’t try to crush it to death, just shock it, 1 or 2 good hist normally gets them off. put the nut back on loose in case you miss!

Go to your local auto parts shop and buy a tie rod end puller, they are about $20.
I just pulled my steering box out so i know what your going thru, its currently getting rebuilt.

Steve,
Its easy, say F*ckn piece of Shit 3 times.
Then undo the large bolt on the bottom of the steering box, get the tie rod remover from a spare parts place like Barney said, undo the the tie rod bolt and then separate the pitman arm from the tie rod.
There wll be a couple of screws holding a metal coverplate in the wheel well - take these off. Then undo the bolts holding the steering box to the chassis and lift the muverfu$ker out through the engine bay. Then you just need to get the pitman arm off the splined shaft which will be either easy or hard. If its easy it takes 2 minutes, if its hard it takes longer than 2 minutes.
Thats my method and have taken 2 out now.
Dont forget to swear at the f*cker all through it though.
Cheers
Greg

the clamp that holds the steering colum to the box has a bolt thru it you must remove the bolt entirley, not just loosen it.

Congrats Steve, you now are a member of the Blackhanded Swearing Steering Box Owners Club.
Now, next lesson - removal of brake booster.
Say "Fckn piece of shit"5 times, lie on floor under pedals, squeeze head between clutch and firewall, jam hands in between the steering column and wires, remove skin from knuckles ........... you get the rest (and Strion is upset because he fried his hair a few times) rofl
Cheers

The two things that I hate most are steering box and brake booster removal.
At least you had the car stripped already, Gerg. I have to remove the whole turbo, manifold, dump intake etc. Probably easier to remove the whole engine :D
Speaking of which, I'll grab that box off you next week.

quick q, is it easy to do the seals on the box yourself or is it just a better idea to take it to a steering place?
