How to get the best head

Post by logik »

Well my fantastic 'only 3 thou off' head turned out to be 'lets skim 50thou off this overheated pile of shit', so i left the task of getting a new head up to my workshop.

They have found new aftermarket cylinder heads (bare heads), get them shipped here, and are willing to take all the parts out of the other 4 heads ive taken down there and reassemble into a complete bolton head for $600.

I thought shit for this cheap i might as well get some work done to this head. The guys havent been able to find any performance orientated parts (seems mainstream is only interested in dohc) for it.

Basically after some suppliers for stuff like bigger valves, double valve springs (i'll let barney handle that) - places i can get them, prices, part numbers etc.

One of the guys also wants to know if anyone has tried fitting G64 valves to the G63 head and the level of success people have had.

And to top it off a good cam to go with all the above parts?

Perhaps we could start some sort of database for performance head parts as this is one of the more tricky areas of the car which im not confident in handling?

Cheers for your help in advance,
james

Are you sure they know what they are doing? There are at least 3 different cam suppliers, more for the valve springs.

Valves shouldnt be that hard for them to get.

A US 2.6 Starion has a 46mm Intake valve and a 38mm exhaust valve.
The valve stem diameter is the same as a 2.0 and the overall length is
very similar. I think a 2.0 inlet is 43mm and exhaust is 35 mm. A machine
shop should be able to figure out some larger replacement valves.

Valve springs should be available from any cam grinder. Thats where I
got mine from anyway.

A guy on ebay is selling titanium valve spring retainers to suit the 2.6
Starion. These should fit a 2.0 valve spring.

How much larger can you go before shrouding becomes an issue ?

The retainers thickness affects spring rates so be wary......
