Timing Belt Trap

I had to replace a balance shaft drive belt that broke the other day.
Which means the Timing belt has to come off to get to it.
Got it all back together after triple checking the timing marks for the timing belt, by winding it over.
Went for a test drive, went OK, Rev's OK, Idle's OK.
But in the back of my mind it felt under powered, it should of pulled alot harder.
Get back home and check the timing mark on the camshaft pully compared to top dead centre.
Shite! One tooth out! :o
Everyone, who is looking for more power, or is under powered, and can't find anything wrong, go check your belt!
I couldn't believe how well it ran with one tooth out, but not quite the same!

Hey JPC, reckon this could my problem? JPC helped to change my belt a few months ago and we checked about 3 times to make sure all was good. We checked again the other night and it's out 1 tooth as well. And yep, I'm down on power...among other things.

Yea after going through a changing belt/learning phase, One of the first things I've noticed when putting it all back in sync is when you put the belt back on, the tensioner will cause it to go 'click', when it does that you belt is slipping out by one notch.
I just tightened the belt using my hand making sure nothing moved then let the tensioner in whilst holding the belt in place so it couldn't do it's little trick. Hope this helps.

When you do a timing belt, line up the sprockets and retract
the tensioner all the way and tighten it up.
Fit the belt and make sure that the belt is tight between sprockets
except on the tensioner side.
Release the tensioner so it takes up any slack in the belt and then
nip it up again.
Turn the engine over 2 times so that everything lines up again, if
it doesnt then start again. (Sometimes the balance shaft sprocket
wont be lined up on some types of engines, on these you may have
to turn the engine over 6 times till it lines up again)
If everything is ok then undo the tensioner once again to see if it
will take up any more slack.
Tighten up the tensioner again and it should be all good.
