A question for those who have forge pistons

basically this is a question for those who have forge pistons,

custom made seem to be the only way of getting these at around 2k$
am i correct.
Have tried a place in melbourne who claim to make forge pistons i forgot there complete name they are in the yellow pages called "the specialist piston ...something"... they claim to make pistons for the 2.0l 3 valve dash engine, for 1200$

i know they are not the same pistons then my 2.0l sohc,
though he wasn't sure about mine without all giving him all the spec's of mine which i dont have...

so basically those who have them have you all had them custom made by ron or chris?

I can't remember cost, but get CP pistons. They don't rattle like other forged pistons. And they aren't $2000 either. And they do have to be custom made. I can't give you a price as mine is for a 2.6

Why would forgies rattle?

some pistons tend to knock or 'slap' when they are cold, apparently forged do this more than normal ones.

And apparently Wiseco are much better than JE in this respect.

From reading NZMMC (whom have a lot of forged piston users), most engine builders find that JE pistons need an even larger clearance than the amount specified (which is higher than Wiseco's), so they slap around when cold. Wiseco's worked fine at the lower clearance value, and barely slap at all.

I dont have personal experience, its just there was a recent discussion, so thought Id pass on the info. Thought it might be of help.

wiseco have a higher silicon content so they dont expand as much.. but are known to be weaker..

as for je, alloy expand more than the cast items.. so it rattles due to the increased space between piston / wall.. until its warmed then it will be normal..

get em from overseas, should be cheaper

that was a question i was going to ask but was covered in another post,
evo and vr4 same block but different pistons due to he valves they have and we have.. correct me if i'm wrong,

thanks for all your info boys,
will be looking for a set of forgies just wanted to know how much i'd be up for and where to get them...
obviously custom made is the opitum choice and will contact chris or ron to make up a set, for 1200$ sounds good

The Evo 1-3 valves and Galant VR4 valves should be the same or close enough to not matter. Where are you located by the way ? Order a set of 'off the shelf' JE/Ross or Weisco's pistons, range from $400US - $600US then add shipping and customs and that's it :P

i think frist off 600$ for off the shelf pistons converted would be around 800 then bout 200 shipping round 1000..

and thats pistons for their starions the 2.6 different pistons dont think its worth it heard many stories bout ppl trying to cut costs and grabbing parts and giving it to builders to find out that they are the wrong part and wasted money so i'm just gonna make sure
to get the right ones..
