Cryo freeze the gears. Teflon/nickel coat to reduce friction. Dunno if you can uprate the LSD clutch plates etc themselves. A couple of people here have had the centres redone, they may chime in with more ideas.

Is this the LSD on the silver VR4 Galant powered thing Tom?
If so, BUGGER!
I don't have any suggestion other than DO NOT take it to RPW!
That is all...

thats the LSD and don't worry, RPW was not even on the list of possibilities..
Like all things I guess this was it's way of screaming out for an upgrade :)

Get it rebuilt properly, and if using it for more than everyday driving (if you catch my DRIFT) pull it out and have it checked every twelve months. I'm getting mine redone atm with a suitable breakaway point set that will suit how it gets used. Doing just these things will eliminate or at least minimize breakages. And yes, I broke a tooth off my drive pinion - Waay too much backlash from the beginning, and I knew it too!

i am having issues finding someone who is willing to rebuild the diff (go figure, no1 knows anything about starions and diffs) could someone point me in the right direction to get the diff rebuilt and also upgraded in WA (or anywhere is a possibility at the moment).

Yes be careful who you take it to. I talked to a local diff guy and he say "no way you will get parts for that" which is total BS.
There was a guy at the Wakefield track day that had his diff rebuilt no problems. I can't remember who it was?
As for WA try Crockenburg Motors (08) 9358 0302 they may be able to suggest somewhere?

You could ship it to Melb, a couple have been done here. Surely it couldn't be that hard for someone to do it. To get it going it just needs the pinion gear right? Perhaps just get that done and leave the clutch pack as is?

At this point Im happy to leave it standard as long as I get it back on the road by the time I get home from work in 13 days.. shipping out east is a possiblity..

Yellow pages?

tried the yellow pages, will let the mechanic chase it up, if not I know of one for sale in perth, but would rather rebuild......
ummm, not much to say about it braking, was driving at about 120kph, slowly de-accelerating (no undue pressure on drivetrain) and then *clunk*... I image it was general wear and tear on the diff, or some seal, etc, that had started leaking, there was very little oil inside the diff itself once we put the car up on a hoist.
