Best Gearbox Oil To Use

Normal driving the gearbox changes through the gears pretty smoothly but notice when changing fast and at hi revs it will always crunch. Had my gearbox checked out a while ago and the guy told me it looked brand new. What gearbox oil do you guys use or could it be another problem, ie; timing of the gear change etc?

I use a straight 80w mineral. works mint.
any 75w/90 or 80/90 would be ok

I use the same as the double valve spring guy.

I use 80w/90 with a tube of Nulon G70 treatment, makes it a bit easier to change gears when cold.

Thats just absurd. However running double valve springs in the gearbox is a little trick I picked up.

But failed to say they make the clutch pedal heavier. :roll:
For that reason alone its best not to follow his advice.

I'm not sure if you guys have royal purple down there, but so far, it seems good. A lot of guys on sqc recommend it. I'm running 75w90, and it shifts a little easier, but my box is thrashed, from all the runs I did at the strip last year. Sincros are pretty well shot, and it needs new bearings..

Merlin,
are you sure? I used self tapping screws through the side of the gearbox casing. It leaks a bit but the springs stays in. Try that.

How much oil do you need to buy to fill your gearbox and ditto with the diff?

Check to be sure but I think you will find diff oil is different to gearbox oil, it is for LSD anyway.

Manual transmission: 2.3 litres
Diff: 1.3 litres.
