Well weighed both Starions today.
Widebody (with factory widebody rims)
1340 kg
Front = 740 kg
Rear = 600 kg
JA (with 15" JB rims including spare) with race drivers seat.
1170 kg
Front = 650 kg
Rear = 520 kg
Both with 1/4 tank of fuel.
Let the discussion begin :)

If it's of any help the manual reckons a skinny little JA should weigh 1265kg. And no mention of levels of fuel.
Getting totally sidetracked, I also noticed that there is a GVM (Gross Vehicle Mass) of 1675kg and seating capacity of 5.
Throw a full tank of fuel (75L) into the mix at roughtly 1kg per litre (well it would be if it was water).
Check out the maths on this:
Not including anything in the back,
1675 minus 75kg for fuel, is 1600kg.
If you were legally carrying 5 passengers, their total weight between them can be no more than 325kg. With 5 people that makes 65kg each as an average.
My question is how the hell do you even get 5 people that weigh 65 kg into a Starion???
These numbers would suit the japs just fine, you could possibly get five of them just in the back seat, but Aussies or anyone else for that matter???
Not being racist, but geez!
Okay now do the numbers with 50kg in the back.
Slash an average of 10kg of the average weight of each person. FOOOK!
I guess if you're looking to carry passengers the Starion is not the vehicle, it aint no people mover.
And then again this is all bullshiet if you are taller than about 5'9" or 5'10" cause you'll only get one person in the the back and that would have to be sideways!!!
Aaaaaah..... Now I'll go and have a lie-down, perhaps in one of my Starions....

1170kg is not bad.
I wonder how much has to ripped out to arrive at an even 1000kg?
Greg? Cookie?

I reckon if you replaced the rear hatch glass and got at the doors with a holesaw, you'd get rid of a pile of weight. Bonnet and guards are fairly light anyway.
My 2 year old is squashed in the back seat in his booster seat if there's a front seat passenger. God only knows how and adult would fit in there. Silly japanese....
And I'd rather less weight over the front as in N/B than an extra 90kgs in a WB!!!

ballpark figure is around 1150 kgs after removing everything interior and inner gurad trims etc, remember that a roll cage then has to go back in. I'll be taking mine on the scales once its running properly.

WB 740kg - 600kg = 140kg difference
NB 650kg - 520kg = 130kg difference
So the NB is better balanced.
mrb1, what else has been done to the JA? Does it still have aircon?
How much of the weight difference do you think is because of the engine?

I reckon there's plenty of weight in the interior alone... makes a considerable difference down the quarter... over half a second difference between full interior and minimal interior.

Oops no aircon compressor or bracket. But has full JD intercooler setup, standard engine bay nothing removed, standard air box and plumbing. L300 MPI.
Carpet missing from back seat back. However had parcel shelf, jack and handle and JB 15" spare.
It's a fair comparison.
Just add whatever the boat anchor big aircon compressor weighs maybe 5kg? man that thing is heavy. Maybe 5kg more for the factory drivers seat not sure?
The weighbridge is +/- 10Kg so what the hell.
As for the engine weight difference I wish I knew 90kg is a lot. The widebody 5 stud hubs and brakes would be heavier and I guess the mags and front guards but not 90kg! Somebody weigh some engines please I don't have the equipment to do that :?

Well mate you inspired me to weigh my JB, got it done today. :)
The weighbridge i used goes up in 20kg increments.
Total: 1240kg
Front: 680kg
Rear: 560kg
Had 1/3 tank petrol.
It still has aircon, full interior etc, have added intercooler, MPI etc, sub box, amp and i am using a space saver spare wheel. Factory airbox removed.
JB front seats weigh 17-18kgs each.
