Fuel pump replacement

Hey,

My pump appears to be suffering from old age and I need to replace it.

In order to replace the fuel pump in a starion, do you have to lower/remove the fuel tank?

Also, can it be replaced with anything other than a Starion pump? i.e. VR-4?? As I live in a place plentiful of VR-4's and very easy to obtain VR-4 pump for cheap.

Cheers

Its an 87 4G63T.

you can replace it with a VL unit, or theres a few aftermarket units, one starion i know of runs a porsche unit.

hmmm i wonder who will flame this guy for not using the search button

mate, you can replace with a VL pump, a VLT pump, one of hte bosch 900 series pumps i believe (but only with a lift and surge tank due to pulling power) and some other pumps with minor modifications.

the VL and VLT are the same pump i am told and are the most straight forward to install, just a slight modification to the hose so that it plugs up, mounting in standard position is perfectly fine.

Best bet is a VL turbo fuel pump. You can get direct replacements, but they're more expensive.

You don't need to drop the tank. See this thread:

It can be done without cutting or dropping tanks... just get under and put your hand up the hole...

or you can take off the rear passenger wheel, remove the cover there and you can see the front of the fuel pump.
