Aircon fan etc.

Hey guys,

My interior fans (the ones that blow air around the car) kind of came on and off for a couple of weeks then gave up the ghost completely. Has anyone had this happen before. The aircon itself was still working at the time, but somewhere in the wiring the actual fan circuit must have seized up or something...

Any ideas?

Sounds like the fans have seized, they are around 20 years old would be expected, myne arent to far off it :roll: , i think it's a job of removing most of the dash? but thats just a guess i would like to know myself?

could be the relay, according to a JA diagram I have the AC/FAN relays should be near the coil...

on day my fan started making funny noises, took it apart, its just behind the glove box, just took the glove box out, and took it all apart, ended up a whole sheet of sandpaper made its way in there lol... not hard to get to tho..

Fan or Wiring:

Wiring: Before failure, fans would go from normal power, to nothing instantly.

Fan: Power of fan would of slowly started dropping, possibly noisy, speed going up and down etc

Anyway by looking at the Starion electrical diagram, which is a little confusing about the heater...

Try your fan on different speeds, if some work and not others, then its the switch that is at fault - might need a little work cleaning contacts etc

If they dont work at all, chances are the failure is at the main heater power relay. This relay sucks its main 12V supply from a 10A fuse named ideally 'No. 13'.

So first of all just replace the relay
If it still does it, then replace the fuse.
If it still wont work, give up and go to an Auto-Elecy

Try your fan on different speeds, if some work and not others, then its the switch that is at fault - might need a little work cleaning contacts etc
This can also be the ballast unit , it sheds load to drop your fan speed and is basically 3 wire wound resistors. They have a tendancy to go open circuit. The blower can be removed without removing the glovebox , but it certainly makes it easier. And by the way , NEVER give up.
