Thats rite a carby stazza. 2.6ltr Astron.
Is there any chance in bolting on a sigma turbo set up?
Whats the go for those engines?
I'm looking for a stazza, and i like the sound of 2.6ltrs coming on boost, steering lock to lock!
Seeing its carby, if i do get it would the engine and box be ok with 15psi?
How hard do they rev too?
cheers

Don't bother stuffing around with Turbo/Carby set up...

Get a car first....

good pt...get the car first, see how it runs, then worry about how many parts from other cars u need in ure car to make it good.

In 1981 suck though carbs were ok
now they just suck

if you are going to run a 2.6 which is a good move in my book go with a magna MPI manifold
that is the way I intend to go when i got my starion it had no motor with it
no problem though I have a couple of 2.6s in stock
I have started on the engine build so the plan is

2.6 with ported 2nd gen magna head
magna MPI inlet
custom exhaust manifold to ? maybe t04
wolf computor large intercooler
big cam ( 7000 rpm ) double valve springs
and all the normal bottom end stuff
polished peened rods
light flywheel made from 4140 steel
the crank has been lightened and cleaned up

Just watch your timing chains...

I've not had timing chain problems in the past

I have a N/A 4g54 in a sigma that runs to 7000 rpm
the last sprint day at phillip Island it was doing it in 5th
about 230Ks of the main strait

however the balance shafts are in the bin
it is normaly the balance shaft chain that gives trouble

cant wait to get one of these things turboed

dont be shy of the G54, its a strong engine, and as cheaterparts says, can be made to rev.

as an alternative, you might consider the 4G64 engine.
this can be had in 8 valve or 16 valve single cam mpi.
and the VR4 head just bolts straight on, :D with a bit of work :x

hmmm if you insist ... my brother's Z would probably beat close to every1's stazza on this forum and shes still suckin out of a zenith ... 13.2 at 112 mph go figure...

I don't think anyone will deny that suck through carb turbo setups don't make HP (I remember an old carby sigma running 12s) but general drivability and reliability do 'suck'. Does your bro's have problems starting up when cold? or hot? any stumbles at any time? If the answer is no then he is either a very good tuner or lucky.

"Q" on starquestclub blows thru a professionally modified holley 4 barrel carb on his 2.6. Runs 11.8sec quarters @22psi

cheaterparts,
Is this a regular 2.6 N/A 4g54 u had rev to 7000 ....what mods ?
Many us guys suffer from pre 6k power drop off, same as what some of these 2.0 sohc guys report.
It will be intersting to see how boost will go with your setup.. maybe pinpoint the 'bottleneck'.

There's alot of debate about carbi and turbo settings...most people will tell you not to bother...those same people will tell you not to bother to running LPG on a turbo...those people are quiters.

Mate my car is carbi and LPG...and no it may not go as hard as some here but I laugh for silly little head off when I fill up for 32c a litre and petrol is costing around 102c a litre...

the point of my post, is not to boast ('cos a carbi LPG starion is nothing to boast over)...but if you wanna do it that way...then do it....stand out from the crowd without MPI and you may just be in for a surprise with how it goes.

Cheers Dave

thats great to know, coz i got a GT25 in my shed and the option of owning a 2.6ltr Starion. just owning another Starion would make me smile!
My question still remains: would the N/A 5spd box handle 200+hp?

even small turbo'd tbi 2.6s easily put 300+ ft-lbs of torque to the ground... I'd start looking for a staz gbox (and u confirmed that they r different I'd imagine)

spare 10000 big ones?

Yeah that would be totally kool if i had a shit load of money, i could get Dymez's 5spd tranny. Unever no she might even come with a nice dress and some lippy too! I heard those 2.6ltr (ES CONQUEST) boxes handle bulk power!
i'm hoping the guy still has the box and maybe even the blown motor!
