My First "F#$king Starion" Issue <- Gerg knew i

Post by Camotec »

Hey guys, need your input,

Ok i drove back from Sydney after meeting all the Sydney Staz Mob, bunch of wack jobs lemme tell you hehe

After i pulled into the driveway and returned to idle i found that the idle went down too 500rpm sounded rough but stable, yet black smoke from the exhaust... not oil but fuel smoke. i switched the car off and spoke to Chef and he recommended that i check the plugs, i did and found them to be a little fouled nothing major though, i gave them a clean and put them in again, no difference.

However the smoke stops when i bump the revs up but it comes back when the rpm drops to 500rpm (my car normally idles about 1200rpm because of another issue hehe). but i had the bonnet up with the engine idleing and found that i was getting the same smoke coming from the exhaust side of the motor, but i am not sure where from exactly.

Could it be a stuck open wastegate or somthing else I think is causing the rough and low idle, your help would be greatly appreciated.

If anyone needs more info let me know :)

Sounds like you have a leak somewhere between the air-flow meter in your airbox and the throttle body.

Check all your intercooler pipes, the hose between the air-box and your turbo. Check that none of the vacuum lines on your intake manifold are leaking.

Also, does the boost gauge seem to be working properly at idle? Or does the reading look odd? Your MAP sensor may have finally let go.

Let us know how you go... oh, and very nice to meet you Ben. :) Very friendly bloke. :)

None of your high tension leads are shorting out are they? Does it drive OK? Is only a problem when idleing?

Yeah was only when idleing reved fine without fuel smoke.....

I found the problem, was a bloody little vacuum hose at the rear of the throttle body put it back on and the idle went back to normal (high as shit fricken 1200rpm idle) hehe.

So now tomorrow i will be going into see auto one to pick up a pack of bright tie wraps to put on all the new 4mm vac hoses i put in that way at 1 bar they won't come off.

plus i pickup my new pads tomorrow... woohoo no more squealing

ta for all yer help cookie and rassy :) owe u a beer, we need a social day, bbq and beer, what do you know i have a new bbq and big backyard and hell plenty of room if you want a place to crash
