Where are some places I can get a set of hypereutectic pistons?
4G63 SOHC

Any idea on how much they cost???

pardon the ignorance but what are they and why would i want them?

Hey man,

Hypertectic pistons are a chemically hardened metal piston which are alot stronger than normal pistons but not as strong as forged pistons. but considering the price of forged pistons hypertectics are a good replacement.

Hypereutectic alloys have what some feel are superior qualities to many of the alloys used in cast piston construction (ie, Stockies. ).

eg,

While the benefit they provide is not always agreed upon, they are typically considered to be better than cheap cast alloy pistons, but not as good as forged.

Many people who rebuild their engines choose them... They are supposed to be less prone to failure than normal pistons.

hyper pistons also have an expantion rate close to cast so can be fitted with closer tolerances then forged pistons

based on what I've seen in the states, I wouldn't go near those pistons. TOOOOO many horror stories! They actually call them hyper-regret-its. Even tho they're $17-25usd each, they can keep em. The starquest guys use pistons made Silvolite - they may sound good on paper, and work well in an atmo application, but the rate of turbo motor piston failures are alarming.

The stock pistons should be very good huh ? Has anybody pushed 'em to the limit. If they're anything like quality of the vr4 pistons (and they should be close at least), then thats all the piston you could ever want in a street motor. Guys have made incredible power, running 30+psi on stock dsm. One tough little sucker. If you have the option of going with vr4 pistons, I'd definitely go that route.

ive been told stock starion pistons can take a fair bit of boost when stock, the low comp ratio would help that. I think there are a few people running 15psi or so on stock motors just fine.

I wouldnt run any more than 15psi on the stock pistons continously, and then i would make sure the tuning was spot on, defiantly not with the factory ECI system.

Ok.. good info

But has any got contact details of piston suppliers? :?

Standard?
Hypereutectic?
VR4?
EVO?
Forged?

I got hypertectic pistons and i think their fine I have run up to 18psi with a high flowed tc06 and with my timing and tuning it works well, I have to run atleast 98 octane fuel and on track days I use a bottle of octance boost. I would tell you the stuff but i can't remember the name as i only look for the bottle colour, but this brand pushes the octane rating up by 7 numbers

Seven numbers???

Like a Million Octane?

Wouldn't that be like water??? You'd need to use a thermonuclear detonation to ignite it!!!

But if you've found a decent octane booster that's not crap (and I don't mean at keeping off pinging - I'm talking about fouling plugs too) let us all know :)

Not just the colour.

I used to use the Nulon professional stuff, because the local garage was selling it for $8 a bottle... They didn't make that mistake for too long. But then I heard bad stuff about it fouling plugs.

I don't know if it's true or not though.

Ideally, something cheap would be good too.

Zoom magazine did an octane booster comparison a while ago. I'll see if I can dig it up and scan it or something if anybody is interested.

A hypereutectic piston is a cast piston that has higher amounts
of silicon than normal. Above 13% I believe.

They have some properties that make them suitable for use
with diesels and 2 stroke engines.

They are not in fact any stronger than an ordinary cast piston.

But if a hypereutectic piston is made with a performance application
in mind, they may have some features that make them superior.
Im thinking the shape of the piston and thicker ring lands.
