Boost V Timing

Post by sigmaproject »

I know as the boost goes up the timing comes back, But does it get to a point that the retarded timing makes further boost increases pointless. I am talking about a street with 8:1 compression. 8)

on a stock Starion, there's vac advance retard as well as ignition retard (-8 degrees) so full mech advance is about 31 degrees (don't quote me) without boost, as soon as the engine goes on boost the vac advance pulls timing back some, plus if the knock sensor detects pinging it pulls it back another 8 degrees... the mechanic tells me that on a stock engine you can get away with heaps at low rpm/no/light load, but under boost there's little to gain, unless you have very good fuel & intercooling....
