remove your tunnel console so you can check the top shifter bolts.
or possibly the shifter is detaching itself from the mechanism. its a rubber bond to the actual shift lever into the gearbox.
and dont get any hypoi gearbox oil on your carpet, itl stink for years.
while your there, might as well replace the old oil with some Redline MTL.
very good stuff!

Check engine and gearbox mounts, could be the whole lot moving around.

When warm the only difference is the oil is everywhere, and lubricating properly. I can't downchange to 2nd gear until it has warmed up.

So Im going to put in my recommendation to have your manual transmission fluid changed - as you may find a piece of 2nd gear in it that is getting banged around when the fluid has warmed up.

Im no gearbox genius here, its just an idea that makes sense to me.

Does it start shaking at around 3000rpm. If so you could have a balance shaft problem.

How would on change gearbox oil...
never done it and never seen it done,
is it
a. just as straight forward as a engine oil change?
b. more ocmplicated because of the removing of interior bits?
or c. shouldn't be tried unless instructed or supervised?

or does any one care to share the steps?

cheers,

cheers,
i beleive its the same as engine oil. undo the bolt at the bottom, oil comes out. however getting the oil back in is a bit trickier, for obvious reasons. i think there is a bolt on the side of the box, alongside the underside of the car, that you use to fill it back up. the only problem is to get the oil in, you'll need to pump it in (syringe) or run a hose to it, hold the other end of the hose upright by the side of the car and fill it from there.

I had that vibration in my silver car when I first got it.

I had no idea what it was so off to the mechanic. They said most likely a stuffed engine mount. It turned out to be that one of the belts to the balance shaft had skipped off at one end, or it skipped a few teeth and wasn't in the right position to the rest of the engine.
It was a few years back now.

The dude I bought it from covered it up by having his hand on the gear stick

Without ENGINE balance shafts the vibration will be transferred through the gearbox and the gearstick will rattle like crazy.
