I think you're wrong, or it explains why your car is quicker than mine. That and more cams, computer etc.

3 ways.
1. Open the diff and count the teeth on the crown wheel and pinion. Divide the bigger number by the little number.
2. Next cruise, drive side by side with me in 4th gear (1:1), and see what the revs are. If they are the same the diffs are the same ratio.
3. Jack up the car, mark where the tailshaft is. Turn the wheel around 1 revolution. Note how many times the tailshaft turns around. If it's almost 4 times you got a 3.9. If it's about 3.5 then you got a 3.55.

Drive at 100 in 5th, if your revving about 3k, then you have 3.9:1 sexyness.

Steve's Starion.

Post by David »

AFAIK, it's 3.9:1 in your Starion Steve... That's what Mark Cherriman said, and I don't see any reason to disbeleive him.

As for ratios?

Not many choices for JA. I think you may be able to get a different ratio from a Scorpion diff though.

JD housing is larger. - Combinations to 5.1:1 or something similar.

Ron (Coltspeed) is the expert. He can rattle the ratio's off from the top of his head. Can probably change your diff too.

I have a 4.6:1 ratio in a JA housing. I beleive it's a Pajero diff cut down to fit the JA housing. But then, I have a *very* modified diff housing, including pickups for the diff cooler.

Regards
David

Sorry, i should have made mention of tyre/wheel size aswell, the 3k @ 100k thing will only hold true if your tyre/wheel combo diameter is similar to standard.

They can be found in the same aisle as the hens teeth and the leprecons with their pots of gold.

Apparently you can swap the LSD centre from a light mitsu truck and put it in the non-lsd case (JB/JD one would assume) But the centre has to come from the US cos that's where the trucks live in the first place. Oscar-the-Grouch has the conversion on offer. Or if you are keen, check what mitsubish vehicles offer in the way of LSD centres and get your tape measure out.
