Interesting Brake issue

Post by WidebodyWoody »

Went for a 6 hour long drive today. About an hour into the drive, my Brakes went REALLY soft. I could almost put the pedal on the floor before it started to brake. But if I pumped the pedal once or twice it went hard again. The really interesting part was 30 minutes later, it went back to normal. Any ideas? If it stayed like that whilst the car was warm, I could understand it more, but not this weird occurrence. Thanks

when the brake went soft, were you cruising for a long time without touching the pedal? If so you may of experienced PAD KNOCK OFF where the disc oscillate & gently cause the pad to retract in the caliper.

the pumping and getting better sounds like there's air in the system somewhere. I would be giving the brakes a bleed and a flush with new fluid anyways and checking if it happens again. Does the car still have ABS?

The longer I did leave the brakes the worst it did get. But it would go soft after only a 30 seconds. But would take a few minutes to get the softest.

Haven't had this issue before, so didn't think that it would be air in the line. I still have the factory Brake Booster system in place. Thought that it could have been a leak in the vacuum line for that. But again, it went back to normal
