Rear Strut Question

Hey...probably a dumb one but here goes.
Pulled a rear strut to look at replacing the insert. Am I correct in assuming this is a rock stock original strut? Are you able to get the top off to get the insert out or is it all sealed and the only way is to cut the tube off?
As you can see...it's seen better days. And you can push it all the way in with minimal effort...I think it's rooted!

Al my rears were cut and threaded for a gland nut to fit my Konis.

If you want to make it simple for yourself, these are the only rear struts available on the market...(as far as I'm aware)

Around $230 delivered is not bad! All years rear shocks are the same for Starion/Conquest. The seller also offers an empty rear strut for MR2 rear shock inserts.

Thank you, I'll keep it in mind if what I plan to do goes pear shaped!

Al, does the top shocker mount look as bad as that as well ? My guess it will be all worn as well.

Good question. I looked at the rest of the pieces and found the spring cap is ok but the mount into the body hole is ovalled (looking at the bolt orientation, towards the centre of the car) Looking closely at the old shock top and it has been ground away, it hasn't worn like that. I suspect it's a very dodgy backyard additional camber modification
I'll look at the other side when I pull it out and see if it's the same :x
