Supra Box Conversions

Post by GADGET »

Any one know who sells these Supra conversion kits that are available. I want a gear box that can handle a decent launch. What are your opinions on the Supra unit or is there possibly something better? Maybe even something automatic?

Doubt Dellow makes the 2.6/w58 adapter or belhousing anymore ? U guys would know better than I

"notav6" used to post on use ix.net forums. He 'bumped up' the stock auto tranny behind his 13.3sec 2.6 starquest. He knew how to work the auto box, but I haven't see him post for a very long time.

Folks have reduced ~ a full second off their ETs by switching from manual gbox to auto. Most 'adapt' an upgraded tranny from an american car.

w58 non turbo toyota gbox have withstood 4-450 ft-lbs in the heavy mk3 supras with turbo conversions. I hardly think you'd exceed that in a stazz. Shock is a bigger tranny killer than torque. My philosophy is make more torque and let the motor 'do the work' rather than beating the crap outta your gbox.... sound like "a decent launch", eh.
A handfull have taken their 3000+ pound, 2.6 powered stazz to low 11s using 88-9 original starquest gbox.

I have a supra 5 speed box and it took a bit of engineering to get it to bolt up to the vr4 block... but ooooo its lovely!! I've broken a tailshaft and i'm pretty sure the diff will break before the gearbox gives out.

unless your sole purpose was to use your car as a drag car i wouldnt hook up an auto behind a 4cly turb which doesnt have alot of bottom end torque...besides have a manual is more fun, an isnt as boring...
