Intercooler size
Intercooler size
What is the recommended intercooler size for standard boost? Are there any drawbacks running a larger intercooler? Any web info on this suitable for mitsubishi engines/turbos?
Has anyone on here used a Just Jap intercooler? Are they a cost effective option?

Standard boost... You could argue that you don't need an intercooler.
Don't go too big as they are a prick to fit. And too big with 3" pipe work on a street car will add lag.
A 450x300 core with 2.5" end tanks is the biggest you'd want to go. Just jap will be fine, but PWR coolers are going to be more efficient (and Australian made) the extra $200 you won't notice at the end of the day.

Heaps of options to make plumbing easier, neater and cheaper. The trick id finding the right one.
This would be even easier to mount.

I think your mixing PWR up with someone else.
I have dealing with Adam in the past from PWR, so I emailed him to check...

Peter,
All cores are cut tube, stacked and brazed in-house, Ormeau Queensland.
Thanks,

Yeah, last year when I met the with the guys from Fenix radiators, they were showing me the portfolio of the factory in china that does their cores. The same factory also does cores for pwr. All the tanks etc are done here and welded on, along with the custom stuff.

Thanks everyone for the input.
I bought the G63T engine in a Scorpion that used a fan clutch and no knock sensor. This engine is now in my Starion. I think that the engine is imported? from a Mighty Max?
The previous owner ran a Pajero intercooler (which is top mount) and mounted it vertically in front of the Scorpion radiator with the outlets facing towards the left hand fender.
The intercooler I have been using is Just Jap 555x233x72 with 2 inch inlet and outlets. I mounted vertically with the inlet/outlets at the bottom.
Looking previously on this website, some mount the intercooler with the inlets at the bottom (more pipework but more common mounting?) or at the top. Is there any difference?
The Pajero intercooler is much smaller - and the car always seemed to run better with it - OR possibly the car ran better because the pipework was shorter when the Pajero IC was used.
Any ideas as to improvements I could make?
If I were to use the Pajero IC again, it looks like I would need to mount it vertically with the inlet and outlet at the top of the IC - just below the oil cooler.

All PWR core are made here from scratch. The cut the tube, assemble/the tube and cooling fins and braise on their stacking tables just to make the cores, prior to adding on the end tanks.
So whoever told you they are made in China is lying to you and needs to get their facts right before rubbishing this world renown Aussie company.
Call Adam and have a chat with him.
