What is needed to put an usdm Lsd into yalls non-lsd housing?

There are a couple of different housings, to fit a usdm LSD nugget into an a us car, the aus car has to be fitted with the 'big' housing.
Easiest way is to fit the whole diff, torque tube, axles, hubs and brake discs. I believe the hub carriers and brake calipers are the same across all models? But you'll also need to 5 stud the front somehow...
Is it possible to fit the 6 bolt companion flanges to rear 4 stud hubs?

Pre 88 model diffs should drop straight in to a non lsd car, the half shafts should be the same. Obviously measure and check before you do it.

Loosely speaking that's correct. The complete big 4 bolt LSD diff and torque tube are needed.
The half shafts are not exactly the same, but have the correct spline count for it to work on the large diff. So, extra set of half shafts are not needed.

So in the case of fitting a 6 bolt LSD, can you get away with just replacing the flanges on the hubs together with the 88-89 LSD +T/tube and with 6 bolt half shafts?
Redzone...are you able to clarify this? Are those companion flanges on the rear hubs interchageable?

No, the 6 bolt flanges have a larger spline so don't work on the 4 bolt stuff either way.
To put an american sourced lsd in an aussie ja or jb you need a complete diff & torque tube from a 85.5 intercooled narrowbody, 86 or 87 widebody.
If you want the 6 bolt stuff then u need the diff, torque tube, half shafts, drive flanges & stub axles plus the 5 stud rear hubs, caliper brackets, plus the front 5 stud hubs, discs, caliper brackets...

The only other way is if you find an 83/84 starion with the lsd option, rare even in the usa.

From a thread on Starquestclub.com this is also the information that was concluded with being correct. Diff Centre, Torque Tube are the key components and the non LSD, non i/c cars driveshafts bolt straight into them with no issues.. apparently the flanges are the same. The I/C ones had a different flange.. but you can modify the holes to be a bit larger which then will allow them to bolt up, test have proven they still run sturdy even after the modification. Long as you stick to the 4bolt stuff as mentioned earlier. then you should be right from what i've heard.

If you are going to buy a big LSD from the US in 4 bolt form, you need the whole diff not just the diff centre plus torque tube.
Most big diffs came in JD's and there would be only be 50-60 around!
The 6 bolt LSD comes up for sale a lot in the US and Japan, but as Redzone has stated you need virtually the whole box and dice!
That's a double the price ($1800-$2000) for the improved set up but it also includes a brake upgrade.

So two complete USDM 6 bolt setups for under $1k (aus) landed was a good deal?

Super deal! 2 sets for under a grand.
Obviously the benefit of next to nothing in shipping fees :D
It's time to bring in that LHD $500-$1000 widey..I say!
Over the years, I've brought in piece by piece the parts needed for one set and it's easily cost me $1800 using USPS and the odd parts put in a Staz from Japan.
I think the parts cost me $750 but the freight is the killer!
