Wisco pistons.

Post by T-man »

Hi all, I've just recived my new wisco pistons and acl race bearings. After honing the bores and removing old main bearings and replacing them with new ones. I decided to start stripping the old pistons down. I had a look at the old pistons and noticed there's no c-clips holding the pin in ( the pin that holds the piston to the rods ) so I thought it was a simple case of a slight chap with a hammer and they would simply knock out. How wrong was I!!!!! After destroying part of my work bench I got it out. I caused alot of damage to the old starion piston, and am worried that I will cause damage to my new pistons. Now to my next question. Wisco pistons have a c-clip groove in the pistons meaning that it needs to be used, the old ones don't have this. I'm presuming that that the old ones are floating pins. Does this mean I have the wrong type of piston or does it not matter?

Thanks in advance,
T-man

You have floating pistons with your Wiseco's, the original pistons are not, they are a heat and press fit into the little end.. You may have damaged your conrod by smashing the pin out with a hammer, take the rest of them to an engine reconditioner to be heated and pressed out, and get the one you have done checked for straightness...

Might want to consider upgrading the rods to say Eagles as they are claimed to be lighter and stronger.
