after my 2nd headgasket in a month (running 12psi boost 9 to 1 comp) i never had a problem for 12 months , i now set boost to 8psi and was wondering is there a better headgasket ie multi layer steel ?,than the traditional composite style gasket ,its hard living life minus 4 psi but at the moment it seems safe to just wind everything down than pull the head off again

Dude, there must be something wrong or something you're doing wrong.
Gotta ask:
Have you had the block decked and faced the head?
Are you using old head bolts or new ones?
Are you retensioning the head? If so, how? There are different ways of doing it...I personally got caught on this one
Is your compression too high? I.e wrong pistons etc
Is your cooling system working properly?
Have you got a pic of the damaged HG?
What made the first one blow?
I'm assuming it's a Starion.

the headgasket is a composite ,as for tune it has been the same for the last 12 months, the bolts are arp, the surfaces are straight and flat , the problem is the composite fire ring doesnt like too much boost ,ive got 27 years in the trade ,but never had these problems before ,unless the head has gone soft? ,I cant believe it happened twice -basically the cylinder pressure splits the gasket ,so was wondering what else other than oring the block was out there

Go Cometic, you wont regret it.
There's good and bad stories out there, but since switching to Cometic, I haven't had an issue at all.

I have a MLS gasket on the TC 63 with no problems BUT there is a reccomended finish of the mating surfaces for the best results.
The other option is a copper gasket and "O" rings.
