Jack up rear of car (Both rear wheels off ground)
Put gearbox in neutral.
Spin one rear wheel by hand. If other rear wheel goes in same direction then you most likely have an LSD.
Method #2

Jack up rear of car
Handbrake off
Put gearbox in gear (any)
If you can't spin one back wheel by hand, you've most likely got an LSD

Park on grass. Rev to 4000 rpm with left foot on clutch and in 1st gear. Turn sttering wheel to the right.
Remove left foot.
After about 10 seconds, stop vehicle and get out and look at the track. If there's 2, you have an lsd, if there's 1, you don't.

All the above are great indicators, but won't reveal the truth.
The only way to know for sure is to see it with your own eyes.
Step 1. Jack up rear from the middle of the suspension, between the wheels and under the diff. Don't jack up from the fuel tank.
Step 2. Put a pin under the rear somewhere on your side (safety first)
Step 3. Remove the wheel. Leave the handbrake on to stop it turning.
Step 4. Handbrake off. 14mm ring spanner. Hammer. Remove 4 bolts holding in half-shaft.
Step 5. Look inside the diff.
If you see a small hole about 10mm in diameter, or just a solid disc, then you have an LSD.
If you see a transverse bar about 20mm in diameter (and squared off longitudinally like a very long nut) then you have an open diff.
Step 6. Reverse from Step 4 to Step 1.
Step 7. Conclusion.
If you have an LSD, learn to master the following phrase.
"I *know* my Starion has an LSD".
Else master the following phrase.
"I don't suppose you know of any Starion LSDs going cheap?"
BTW, if you *do* have an LSD, and you weren't the person who put it there, then you probably need to have it reconditioned... Especially if it's not locking that well. You can use the donut test to confirm.
* If your donuts are tight, your LSD is good.
* If they are sloppy, then your LSD is bad.
* If you attempt this test knowing you don't have an LSD, then you are a loser.
Regards
David.
