Who needs a vortex AFM when you can run one of these and trim your injectors real time. :beer

Does it translate a 0-5v signal into a freauency output? Still at the end of the day it only worka out to be effectively a voltage bender in that as you change the mixtures you also change the timing

I've used one with great results, been using the MAFT over here for quite a few years now. Yes. it does translate (hence the name) the 0-5v to mitsu's frequency based signal. It was originally developed for the DSM crowd and proven very successful in that market. Since the first generation eclipse MAF was a direct upgrade for the later style injection on the Starion, it was a natural and easy progression to adapt the MAFT to the starion as well. The Staz ECU (US spec anyway) does not have any part in engine timing. Advance and retard is independently controlled by the ignitor, mechanical advance in the distributor, and vaccuum dashpot on the distributor. You could say it is a fuel only system. Mitsu fuel injection was pretty dumb by today's standards, lacking the interconnectivity that modern systems have.

I wonder if this can also work with the Starions that also use a MAP sensor.

so is this installed and performing on a 2.0L SOHC starion ?

Yes this is installed and running on my SOHC 2.0L car with the map sensor too. Just gotta sort out getting an A/F gauge and o2 sensor to tune it based on air flow and not rpm. You can do either.

They make a new version that can go straight to speed density, or MAP sensor instead of the MAF sensor. These kits are all over the pace over here. Its a easy and nice way to clean up the engine bay and give a little tuning option.

The big problem with the early 2.0 starions is that they use BOTH..

But I guess if you can just install it and i'll work.. But maybe not for adjusting the "on boost" part of your tune..

(apart from the obvious benefit of having less restriction in the intake)

Or can you connect it to both map and maf signals at the same time ?

I suppose it depends on your stock ECU. You have a MAP sensor on the intake like we do here for the 2G eclipse 4g63 motors, but you can use the new MAFt ( but need new MAP and intake temp sensor) and I believe emliminate the whole MAF and stock MAP all togeather. I have to check into it a bit more deeply to be sure.

I also dont know how similar your motors and systems are compared to ours...
