Turbo sizing

Post by 1320ft »

Hey guys,

Shopping for the turbo atm.

I'm leaning towards a GT3582, w/- external wastegate.

Keeping in mind, the car is predominately drag, but do plan on coming down to wakey etc from time to time.

Capacity will stay at 2l atm, ems dualsport with 1600cc E85, 5 spd.

maybe have a look at a gt28 71r , i have the old gt30 40 which i think is the 3582r on my twincam and its quite lazy down low , ive driven a car thats around the same size as a starion with the gt2871r on a sr20 and it was very responsive and didnt seem to run outa puff . i think there rated to 460hp . Power figures were quite good also on this sr20 it made 420hp on 16psi with aftermarket cams and ecu, i cant see why it wouldnt make nice power on a sohc or dohc 4g63 .

I'm aiming for consistant 10's, then when I get bored with that, go for 9's.

The car wont be street registered.

If I had my time again I would have gotten a gt3076 with an external wastegate. It has a more efficient blade design over a gt3040(aka gt3082r) and has a slotted compressor housing to prevent surge.

x2 for a 3076 with a .82 rear  Or speak to MRB1 on here. He can make you a turbo to suit any application.

Work out how much power you need to run a 10, then how much power you can make with a SOHC 2L, then work out the turbo you need. I think you might find that you can't have the best of both worlds. Oh, then work out how much weight you need to strip (since it won't be street registered - unfotunately).
:D

Also, what sort of budget do you have in mind?

It's going to be DOHC converted, have gotten my hand on a bare Galant GSR head.

As for street rego'd, it depends. I have a guy, if you know what I mean.

Budget just depends as I'm rolling along. I work in auto parts, so all the hard parts, fuel system, intercooler etc I get at cost. Machine work etc is all at mates rates.

Cage wont cost more than 1K, diff and box might be an issue atm. Suspension, i'm thinking of getting the std struts from USA and just using some custom springs.

TD06 are a very good turbo same as the 3076. to4z are good as well
but for the drags and the power you need to do a 10 go GT42.

if you want consistant 10s go auto and a diff to match.

my 2 cents :beer

have just spoked to my tuner, he said a 3076 with .63 rear would go low 10's.

Now just gotta go see glen @ diff trans. To see what he reccomends for the driveline.

if the shell is stripped out and the floor deadner pulled out
a tdo5 20g ported is almost the same , will get you high tens
a tdo6 25g is like a gt35 , and will get you a mid nine ,

a mini tourque flight out of a scorpian will hold around 500hp , this box will bolt up no probs and is very light , and cheap compared to a c4 or t/350 that will also need custom adaptor plates.

the irs in a starion is no good for drag's , to fix a straight axle will not be an easy task, have a look underneath and you will soon find out.
old skool jap ...........
there is no substitute...........
