Idle drops low when the clutch goes down

Post by traser »

any ideas? car idles high when started (1100-1150rpm) yet when I drive it and drop the clutch to change gear/stop the revs drop to under 350rpm, nearly stalls.

Any input appreciated, Steve

used to happen in my old car.. could have been one of three problems for me..

1. my idle control motor was missing LOL
2. my old car had a horrible case of leaky injectors
3. the timing goes out because of movement in the timing gear.

Not sure if this helps you, but this is what I've come accorss.

thanks for the reply, played around today.

first start the car, low idle (400), quick rev and idle settles at 800.

then everytime you rev the engine the idle will drop to 300 and slowly pic back up to 800.

also slow at dropping revs. any ideas guys? loosing the will with the car now!!

Fugazi, I think idle control could well be the culprit, although prior to the rebuild I dont remember it having this problem?

Is the idle control the black rubber sheathed piston that pushes on the tab of the throttle pulley?

If so anywhere this can be tested/ should it be visibly moving etc?
My manual only shows the 2.6 TB :(

Thanks guys

Steve
