Intake hose repair

An oldie but a goodie.

The inlet hose from the air cleaner to the turbo inlet can quite easily get damaged when the hose is removed and reinstalled. The underside of the hose gets cut and eventually will leak air into the turbo giving crappy performance.

An el cheapo fix is as follows.
What you'll need-
short length of 2" exhaust pipe
45 degree elbow, 50mm diameter (I used a radiator pipe I found, but an ebay silicone elbow should work like a treat) or a 90 degree one you cut in half and can have a spare for later
couple of hose clamps
sharp knife
drills

First, cut the damaged section of inlet pipe off.

Then you will need to make a sleeve from the exhaust pipe, and clamp the 45 degree elbow to it.

By trial and error, cut and massage the elbow to fit inside the rest of the inlet pipe and onto the mouth of the turbo.

Eventually you have something where you can get the pipe onto the turbo mouth and get the clamp done up firmly (don't over tighten it)

It will take a few tries getting the right length for the elbow as the power steering reservoir is in the way. But with a bit of patience and by trimming SMALL amounts at a time, you will get it to fit.

Once you have something that will fit, stick a pencil in the emission port on the inlet hose and mark the location of the hole on the muffler pipe. Take it apart, drill a hole and put it back together the same way.

The finished inlet pipe in place. And be careful in future not to damage the pipe when fitting it....undo the clamp all the way so it doesn't make life harder for you.
