boost tap

am looking at putting a boost controller into the starion, any advice?
87 GSR-V, Factory DASH, Rebuilt bottom end with arp rod bolts and balance shafts removed, head reconed with 3 angle valve grind, TD05 housing machined out to take Garrett T4 internals, rebuilt and cryoed gearbox

id guess it comes with a wiring/vac diagram and u just follow it to hook it up and get it working it would not be to hard to get going

I made mine for $1.50 A plastic tee piece & a length of tubing, works great. :)

yeah $1.50 for more boost and a possible dead engine.

a Tee piece boost leak doesn't give you much control over the boost levels.

Better off getting a proper valve. Even a GFB Boost controller for $70

Must confess, I only did it to try it out & it worked & it stayed there. My Staz is only for Autocross & the motor is well over-due for a freshen up. But for now, its going great, but for how long .......................???

I would just get a proper brass valve instead of the plastic one for the sake of longevity, otherwise theres nothing wrong with it. Those "proper" vaves are just a needle bleed valve with a restrictor in place, no difference except in the price.

i've heard of using longer lengths of vacuum tube from the compressor to actuator to delay the wastegate opening, allowing you to spool up boost slightly quicker.. anyone done this?

It does work, a better way is to use a pressure relief valve instead of a bleed valve, it will reduce wastegate creep as well as allow you to increase boost.
