JB starion came out with the type B injection (like the top pic) in late 84, so its quite possible. the type A has a larger throttle body but the type B is a shitload more reliable.

what is involved in swapping from type 1 to type 2?

This is a guess but i think not a hell of alot should bolt straight up the only thing i can see is the mouth of the intakes are different ones round the other an oval. it sound like the A ones the best so don't think ill change it. :)

bolt up is one thing, how about fuel lines vaccuum lines and other shit.
Which is best really depends on what you want I suppose, I'm leaning toward reliability.
I have a lot of stuff to go mpi anyway buy don't know which car I should put it on, then will probably go with type 2 on the other one.

argh your post edit has made it confusing for other people..

TYPE A is the early style with ECI on the top and an oval air inlet

TYPE B is the late style with the visible injectors and round air inlet.. this one is more reliable, and you can get other injectors to fit.

Ummm, the post I'm looking at now shows the B-type injection manifold, as fitted to the JB/JD on top, and the JA manifold on the bottom... :wtf:

Anyhoo, use the one that doesn't have the big round flat top that says ECI on it. These are the older systems and are prone to leaking, and are not as efficient.

SORRY people

Early type has ECI later type doesn't then.
Right, say I have the one with ECI on the car, what needs to be changed to use the one that DOES NOT have ECI on it?
Wiring? ECU? Fuel lines and fittings?

Yes . It's not a simple swap , but worth it if you have all the bits . You need more than just the throttle body , you need all the wiring , connectors , plugs and so on . And a sympathetic Mechanic .

nosaki dont bother, getting the bits required for yours over here would be a pain. just mpi that truck motor :)

manifold

Yes MPI is the way to go realy although there's alot of work in that but worth it. but i'm use the spare block to build up a dohc engine for mine. so no real point putting mpi on mine.

is there any difference between ja and jb/jd blocks? or is all the same block until the evo 4s?

Ja, Jb and Jd blocks are the same, evo 1 - 3 are different, evo 4 onwards different again.

"Truck motor" is already the later type but since Vicroads don't want to let me register it I am picking up the ALSPOS blue unit on the weekend, I need to work out what I'm doing now, will probably use the gold 2.6 one as a track car and blue one as a daily driver.
Which one to MPI is the question.
Might be poll time.
