Stutter under Acceleration in 3rd and 4th.

Post by Camotec »

What would generally cause a stutter in acceleration cause I went for a drive tonight and everything was great for a while and then I got a stutter.

It seems to be really only be under heavy acceleration and in the 3rd anf 4th gears, I was mucking around with my airbox this arvo putting the water washer bottle back in. and I forgot to tighten the hose clamp on the air hose that between the turbo and airbox (at the airbox end) and i tightened it up as i remembered it afterwards, i haven't been for another drive but just wanted to know if anyone else has experienced this sort of thing.

Cheers

well i must be a bit rich... took mine out the other night, held it in 2nd on 0 boost for a little bit, then put the pedal straight all the way down real quick... a little pause then everything behind me lit up! a damn flame! done it again just to be sure :P so yeh, too rich somewhere i think. could be lack of air from your air intake having that gap. especially after the MAF sensor has counted the air coming in.

Yeah I get that, have had many ideas as to what causes it but have been wrong each time.

Since many visits to the mechanics it seems to happen less. Instead of the big *BANG* die cut thing it used to do, I just get one or two small misfires when holding to redline in 3rd or 4th. Happens to me in 5th gear when pushing past 5000rpm too on 9psi.

Used to be a big deal, now its only tiny, it seems to be an issue of 'how long' it is boosting, as apposed to power or rpm.

So umm yeah if you find out what causes it I'd be interested. Big things that helped mine were plugs, leads, fuel filter, and tuning. Still have a tiny misfire that annoys the pants off me, but its better than the large bangs and sudden motor death.

If the accordian style hose from the turbs tyo airbox was loose, you could have been sucking in un-metered air, meaning you'd be running a bit lean, that could cause a mis-fire, maybe your knock sensor cutting in, or blowing the spark out. I had a miss-fire under boost in 3rd+ gears, i couldnt be bothered diagnosing it, so i threw money at it, new leads, plugs, coil, rotor and cap solved it. (mate works at repco, it was cheap!).
