Good suspension setup?

Hey all,

How much would it set me back for a new set of good shocks and springs? I am looking for something good for the starion, not like king springs (had bad experience with them) but i only have about $800 at most to spend on the shocks and springs.

I wanted to spend around $1500 on a full kit setup like from whiteline but i have no money to do that after the brakes.

Lol turns out i can afford $1500 for a suspension setup now.

I have had bad experience with king sprngs although providing a bling exterior look, having a very uncomfortable ride. Way too boucny for my liking.

I am running King springs in GOTSOM and definitely no bounce. Are you sure they weren't cut to make them lower. That creates a LOT of bounce.

Check on the threads here - there was a lot said about shocks and such just recently. Basically your choice for shocks is Konis (with mods needed to the struts), Tokico (imported from USA) or Monroe (local). $ will determine what you get. the pick is Konis but will set you back over a grand for shocks alone.
$1500 will get you a good set up. Pedders is a good place to start for basic road setup.

(RANT) the springs are there to hold the car off the ground, the shocks control the springs
if your car bounced all over the place then your shocks were rooted,unless you did sommat reel smart like cutting the springs which would have f****d any spring. did you get lowered ones and the car was sitting on the bump stops?
i wish you peeple would get more information before you make silly comments!! :pimp

All 4 Tokico struts (which you'll have to import) are ~US$300+shipping (probably $100). That's damn cheap really.

Kings springs will set you back about $150 a pair. Nothing wrong with them. Any bad experience you've had with them is related to something else.

What comes in the tokico unit? its the shock absorber unit (insert), that goes inside the strut?

Anyone had any experiences with these? price soulds a bit to good to me.... But i can dream.

I have no idea how much it cost or what work went into it, but I have K-max springs and Koni Adjustables in and its stable as. I would definately recommend them to anyone.

Whole struts, direct replacement. I'm guessing about shipping cost, but even if it cost twice that it would be cheap.

By the way, the original struts are Tokico.. they have a good reputation.

lots of us are using KING SPRINGS here, the lowered variety.
with very good results.
as the good doc and others said, if you had a problem, it was probably something else, like crook dampers.
i suppose you may have been inadverdantly sold springs for some other vehical, but unlikly.
sorry to keep banging on, but they realy are the best "local" spring.
a thought, if the TOKICO's are a good price from the states, maybe springs are too?

The tokico struts costed me $419US to land in australia, what you get with the tokico is two inserts for the front and two rear struts. I agree theres nothing wrong with king springs, only thing you need to realise is the lowered king springs are progressive.

progressive would be a bonus would it not? Or would you have to be pretty careful about matching bump/rebound rates for when the spring is compressed?

Ohh, another point i've wondered about for a while, i've heard rumours that you need to shorten stock rear struts (and supposibly these tokico raplcements) to use the lowered king springs? I would assume its to keep the shock operating in its specified range... whats the dealio here?

Progressive allows you more ride comfort but cause of the variences at the diffent levels of compression so when you take the corner its harder to feel what the suspension is doing. I have not probs using the king springs lowered springs on the tokico shocks, so long as the springs stay captive then theres no problems, also i dont think the lowered king springs are that much lowered to cause any problems.
