Everything! LOL Make sure it's a runner

Seriously look for rust in the normal places (behind rear wheels, bottom of doors and front guards...)
I don't know if you guys have the equivilent of the AA here where you can take a car and they give you a full run down on everything and give you a report for a fee?

Body
- Rust in lower front guards, in front of windscreen and lower sections of doors, under the boot spoiler on JA/JB models are the main areas for rust.
- Good to get one with plastic front grille intact as they can be expensive to buy

Motor
- Get a compression test done
- Check for leaking injectors, as its becoming a more frequent problem with these cars
- Check gearbox for noises
- Check turbo for freeplay
- Check motor for smoke on startup , under load/boost

Interior
- Front seats in JA will almost always be cracked unless they have been retrimmed
- Make sure headlight switches are intact and work properly
- All gauges work properly

I don't think many people will allow you to perform these tests before you purchase the car unless you can convince them to take it to a garage to have them done.

^^ dont see why not, if they want to sell the car, they shouldnt have a problem with it..

i second the buy a JB/JD thing derek mentioned, the list of things that are better is that large its worth thinking about.. they are SO much more reliable....

definitely get it checked out by a third party.
