seatbelts retracting too slowwww
has anyone found a way to overcome this? i hate it when we forget and go to slam the door closed and wedge the seatbelt buckle in with a huge banging noise.. :?

the problem: I don’t think its the seatbelt unit itself (well, not on mine) its the oval shaped ring that the belt goes up through it the down again. try opening your door and pull some belt out then lift it up, so its almost a straight path through the ring and let go. you will prob find the belt retracts quite fast with a little 'zzzzzzzK' noise. in short, we need new nylon / Teflon or whatever the crap on the ring is. mine is so badly worn I cant tell what it was. I wonder if removing all the scrappy little bits and polishing the steel a bit will help?

i vaguely remember something about tightening the spring in the retracting mechanism.?. mine 'zips' straight back in great except for the last few inches... its only because it hasn't got enough power to pull the shoulder pads up cos it does it fine without them on the belts. but i'm sure u can fix the slack somehow cheap. i think junkie did it on his staz.

they're nice a fluffy and i don't get any seatbelts digging into my neck :P they don't weigh that much really cooks!

It's actually fairly simple to fix. I have done this with nachoman's car. you take off the door panel and pull the seatbelt right out till it stops, wedge a screwdriver in there so it doesnt spool back on you, remove the belt retaining bar which holds the belt into the holder, take the belt out and wind the spring on a few times. Insert the screwdriver again and put the belt back in and the retaining rod. Then remove screwdriver and it should coil up quicker. This is also the way to replace your worn seatbelt if you can't afford/find a replacement one.

Kinda hard to explain without drawing a picture... Here goes.
If you pull the belt all the way out, you will find there is a loop stitched into it at the end, which is pushed through a slot in the spindle. This loop is held into the spindle by a bar the same size as the width of the belt which stops the belt from coming out of the spindle. Jam a screwdriver into the spindle to hold it in place and stop it from spooling up on you, then you can remove the bar and then the belt, then you can wind on the spindle a few times to tension the spring more, then insert the belt and the retaining rod and slowly rewind the belt onto the spindle making sure it doesnt get off centre or twisted.
