APC EVO 7 runs a 2.4L setup, does 8.7 in the 1/4 :wtf:, when its all said & done, what R u after? 300, 400,500HP  or a streetable engine? :D U CANT BEAT CAPICITY. 2.4 will gine U more torque off throttle...... another point, if the 2L is so good, how come few of the USA guyes have converted back from there 2.6L units to a 2L? :o food for thought. :beer
Cause it costs a lot to build a fast 2.6 ;) Besides twin cams just look hotter in the engine bay. It's lighter also :beer

If you are only aiming for 400hp, Either will get you there. a 4g63 is probably cheapest. At 400hp the 64 would defiantely give you some faster spool and torque which would be nice for a street car. At tihs point it doesnt matter which engine has gone the fastest. Any of them are good options.

Food for thought, why not build a 2.1 destroked 4g64. 4g63 crakn in a 64 block. Rod to stroke ration is premo, and you should be able to rev to the moon with headwork.

Personally I would stick to a 6 bolt setup, but then again 7bolts have been nothing but crank walking engines that most seemed toedevelop while still under warranty. From what i understand it was mainly a deal with the us engines not getting the cranks hardened or something. THats just hersay though.

hardly think anyone would mind either of these 2.6s underhood;

2.6 done 400+ on stock pistons & untouched head. Who has pushed them
to their limits to say what they are ?
TBI 2.6 tap hi 12s with a 17C upgrade + piggyback fuel controller, otherwise stock
Fastest "street" 2.6 ran a stock cam to 10.4, shifting gears.
One of the quickest 2.6s ran a converted oe intake manifold +
fuel-only ecu.

If it "costs a lot to build a fast 2.6"....
where does all this money go ?

All the glitches that you can have with a starion will eat your money.
Overheat it.. Head cracks. And then you can source a other head. that can be a bit difficult to find (4g63's are plentyful at the junkyard.. never saw a 4g54 there.)

no motor should be overheated, thats ez enough.
2.6 is a simple lump, specify these money eating glitches ?

With no access to parts, 2.6 perhaps not the best choice. Thats
certainly not the case in the u.s. where brand new heads go for
little over $300, in addition to junkyard parts available.
OZ/NZ even better off as they have dirt cheap magna heads and mpi
laying about, I understand from reading several posts here.

2.6 has proven what it can do with suprisingly reasonable cost. I'd
just like to hear exactly whats so 'expensive' about them.

on topic, heres an interesting RWD 2.4L wideblock build

magna heads and MPI manifolds are like rocking horse shit now, the TN/TP intake manifolds are incredibly hard to get, TR/TS ones are dime a dozen (and flow better) but they wont fit your LHD cars as the brake master/booster doesnt clear.. the M6-M8 heads are hard to find (in qld anyways), they've mostly all cracked..
Fibreglass airdams $370, fibreglass front bumpers $260, reco drag links $165, alloy radiators $925 (unpolished), h/l switch rebuilds $125, all plus freight.
