Got spark at the plug, Enough to zap the crap out of a mate helping me out. Good blue spark
you sure u just didnt run out of fuel?
if u are sure u have plenty of fuel, im thinking its a fuel flow problem... had a similar prob on an old car a while back and it was a fuel hose that was blocked.
Theres fuel in the tank, Can feel the return line flowing fuel past the regulator if you keep the pump going.
take the cross over pipe off, and see if it will run on something like start ya bastard(just for a sec) if it does then it will have to be fuel.
Thats what i plan to try next, but i dont think fuels the problem. Wont hurt to try

Take the rocker cover off, have a look in there and get some one to give it a crank and see if its all working properly.
Check that yr dissy gear hasnt spun and the pin in it is not sheared.
Do u get any backfires? Any kicks at all from it?
Quick check for fuel (usable) is a pressure guage or even more simple, put a few caps of fuel down its throat in the T/Body area and kick it over...if its a fuel issue it will kick and try to start then die again.
Let me know from here..
Ive turned the car over with the dizzy cap off and it works fine. If all the timing marks line up and the rotor button faces number 1 plug at TDC that would mean the dizzy is fine wouldnt it?
No backfires at all, doesnt sound like starting most of the time but on occasion it sounds close to kicking over.

put the fuel return hose into a bucket
take the seloniud wire off the starter motor
then crank the ignition (hold it on START)
that will show you if the fuel is continuos
then when you let it go (back to the on position)
the fuel will stop, ??
you SHOULD (AS Flav said) put some fuel down the TBI
and see if it`ll fire (B4 anything else) just to take out the
fuel system as a Fault.
Have found out that the head gasket has blown between cylinders 1-2 as well as between 3-4. Should be back and running by mid next week as long as no nasties show up once the heads off.

check you airflow sensor (MAF)
check to see that there's no gunk clogging things up. Otherwise, if you can get hold of a spare, replace it and see if that does anything...
If you have to keep giving it throttle, it could be a fuel leak somewhere in your injection mixer assembly (o-rings not properly installed or stuffed).
