Dumb Question.
If you remove the belt, you will only stop the drivers side ? shaft from spinning. Of note, I am sure that you will find alot of 4g63 engines have broken this belt and the owner is none the wiser.
The second shaft is driven directly off the cam belt, it is attached or part of I should say, the oil pump.
To remove this shaft requires taking the pump apart and machining (not hacksawing) the balance shaft portion off.
The advice that I have recieved from engine reconditioners is that all engines will have a vibration somewhere in the range but some engines have them at annoying revs, such as 3000rpm. ie at 100ks in top.
Like I said I have seen engines myself without the one shaft operating and to be honsest, there was no noticable vibration.

Many years ago I snapped my balance shaft belt in my ex-chaser Cordia GSR by hitting a pothole at full boost in second gear. The vibration was terrible not to mention the HUGE loss in power. There are elimination kits available here & there , but I have heard some bad stories about these. Should you decide to 'de-silence' your 4g63 , it might be a good idea to get the engine balanced (including flywheel & clutch assembly). Just a thought.

Looks like some differing views here.
The one on the drivers side broke and took out the timing belt on mine awhile back. I just pulled the bits of broken belt out, replaced the timing belt, and it was sorted.
I can agree with mrb, my motor revs so much quicker now without the balance shaft connected, didnt notice any vibrations though.
Worth doing, unless you prefer a slow reving motor.
Oh, the other shaft is still hooked up.

that's me. I noticed a slight vibe start about a week ago, tonite I got the front cover off to investigate a coolant leak and there it was dead belt...kiwistar wrote:If you remove the belt, you will only stop the drivers side ? shaft from spinning. the car runs fine apart from the slight vibration,, there is a bit more power too.. I think...
