TC05's can be ok if u wind the boost up.
Funny, I was actually just about to post some questions about the boost!
I plan to use a manual boost controller to raise my boost but I wanted afew things and I felt it was better to ask here in this thread then a new one.
like this boost controller:

Whats the stock boost?
What is a safe boost the 1983 4g63t JA can handle? 14psi to much?
Also, I remember reading something about a boost cut or fuel cut or something with the ECU and boosting it... I cannot remember what I read.. Is that a concern or will a GFB Atomic Boost Controller work?
P.s. someone check out my other post if able;

Did use the search button for raising the boost. I didn't search fuelcut tho. I'll do that now! thank you

Remember both these turbos are using compressor and exhaust wheels that were designed 30 years ago. There are more efficient turbos avaliable.
Does mrb1 have a bolt on solution?

As I've changed over my TC05 (JD type) to a TC06 (JA type but water-cooled) I suppose I should comment...
With the TC06, I added a bigger compressor wheel (17C) and a 3 inch dump, BUT the thing has too much lag before it gets going and when it does,
you're 4000rpm + and then the rush hits in. Great for the race track I suppose.
I think for the street, the TC05 is better and response down low will be more noticeable. As previously mentioned, increase boost to just under 1 bar(~12lbs)
and install hi-flo dump with a decent exhaust. With the intercooler installed it should allow enough condensed air/fuel to keep up with turbo...
I'd go for the JD turbo and enjoy the low down response! Just don't expect too much of a rush after 5000rpm!
