Does doch pistons fit soch

Post by typer »

Does those pistons fit our engines ?

What about the valves, i got 12-valves these are for 16-valves ?

Do they fit and run, if i beware of breaking the timing belt ?

Dude it's SOHC It stands for single overhead cam.

End rant.

A question first - what engine are you running? Standard starion - If so you've only got 8 valves, not 12? Unless it's a DASH.

see the other thread about the same topic in this forum at the moment....

and a jet valve head does not have 12 valves, they dont count as valves in the conventional sense....

any idea what the compression ratio comes to when using DOHC pistons in the SOHC motor ?
I've read that the motor becomes an interference motor, but another post say vr4 pistons lower compression to ~7:1 ?
Sounds contradicting.... or was this due to the 2.4 head (bigger chamber?) on reds' car.

well usually they become an interference motor, but JJH's tarmac car broke a timing belt tensioner and snapped the belt, didnt clash..

VR4 pistons are about 12cc dish depending on brand, starion pistons are about 15cc from what i can gather...

and yes the 2.4 head has huge chambers so lowers compression a lot

I've used DOHC pistons (Mitsubishi Eclipse 1st generation) in my starion, had to machine valve notch for intake valve clearance,
you might not have to do this with a STD cam as my cam had .455" lift at valve.
The compression worked out to be 8.3:1 with a 11cc dish, 52cc chamber, .040" head gasket and piston .008" down bore.

thanks for that info guys. Got a set of DSM (very durable) 1st gen oe
pistons laying around for when I kickstart my 2.0 sohc project.

DKshauno,
what cam do you run and what u think of the performance gain ?

Hi quest,
My cam that i used was a billet from Sure Cam, i gave them spec. on what
the compression was, boost pressure, gear box, diff ratio and they made one up for me.
I only had the cam in for a week, it worn a lobe because i blew a head gasket.
That's what too much timing and a screemer will do, I've plumbed the screemer
back in now and refit a STD cam, i had to add more fuel to compensate for the STD
cam because it was leaning out. I still ran a 13.9@95mph with the STD cam.
I'm not up to date with understanding cams, but i'm sure that there will be some power gains from it.
