ticking noise from engine

Post by TomVR4 »

Hi i have noticed recently that my car is making a ticking noise when under load/ on boost. i can't really hear it when the car is idling, and can't really hear it above 4k. i may not be able to hear it above 4k because of the engine noise. either way it is most noticable under load around 2k to 4k.
any ideas what it could be? i thought it might be the lifters, but wouldn't i be able to hear that all the time, ie at idle.
Any help/suggestions appreciated.

yeah i think it is running lean on boost, this would cause it to ping wouldn't it. Anyone got a set of 650cc injectors they want to sell? how much would a set cost.

Are u nuts???? 450@99% is NOT GOOD. They are basically not closing at all!!! This means they are open 99% of the time at that point and they WILL burn out.
550 should get you out of trouble. If the injectors are too big it will suffer @ idle. 650 is usually for lots of power.....how much power do you have at the moment?

Contact PETROJECT....They have kick ass deals on injectors at the moment.

not sure how much power. maybe around 190rwkw. not really sure though. its a vr4 motor gt30r (around 15-16 psi), wolf 3d ver4, front mount 3 inch exhuast, bosch 044 fuel pump, fuel pressure regulator, etc. with all that, how much 'should' i be making.

now that i think about it. im not that sure it is pinging, because it makes the noise before it is on boost hard. like at 0-1psi it starts making the noise? ill check for exhuast leaks tomorrow

OK...
Im thinking probs 550 but mabey 650...

You can estimate it by using a number of calculations available.

Try one like this....

Check your fuel pressure at boost... If you have an adjustable FPR it might need to be increased.

Higher fuel pressure will help flow more fuel. Worth looking into...
