Inside VELNAS

Post by MisJiF »

I took a VELNAS unit apart to fix the flexi-cable so I though I'd take a photo while I was at it. I was surprised at how simple it looks.
Basically it's just a NEC D650C IC, some logic chips and various other components.
I've not been able to find a datasheet on the NEC D650C so don't know what it does. The vertical board just has the LEDs and the button pads.

I don't know if there is any logic in the display unit, but I suspect not.

Cheers,

Mike.

Hmm, must be a few different D650C chips around, possible suffix difference.

Yeah, I've just found some more info about them. Each D650C IC is preprogrammed to suit a certain application and is given a suffix to indicate what it's for. Not much chance in repairing a VELNAS if this IC dies then.
